About This Quote

The waiter approached. He said. 'Would you like to see the menu?' 'Or would you like to meet the Dish of the Day?' 'Huh?' said Ford. 'Huh?' said Arthur.'Huh?' said Trillian.'That's cool,' said Zaphod.

'We'll meet the meat.' All three characters were highly skeptical of the idea that there was food involved in this test. The waiter assured them that it was real and that their reactions were an indication of how accepting they would be of the idea, but this is hardly what he should have been saying. Instead, if he had truly wanted to convince them, he should have told them that they would be meeting something better than food, which would have been not only more believable but also more useful.

The three characters certainly appreciated meeting meat, but they didn't appreciate being tricked into doing something they didn't want to do.
